Microsoft introduces with Windows 11 a new way of computing. More and more Windows forces you to behave in a certain way. You have a screenshot taken of your screen every few seconds. You are being forced to take a subscription on Onedrive, on Office 365 and besides that they put adverts under your nose, while you paid for the operating system when you bought your computer. Microsoft takes over your computer. You do not own it anymore. You are being forced to use their programs like Edge, Outlook and Office. And if you don´t want to, you need to know your way around the computer to choose other programs like Thunderbird and Chrome or Firefox. And now they even force you to buy a new computer. You may have a computer that is totally great in doing what you want it to do. I have three of those. An Asus of ten years old, but since it is a gamecomputer, an i7, it still is fast in what it does. A Lenovo Thinkpad, an i5, but still a computer that is great in officework and and HP Elitebook, great in officework, surfing and lovely to have on your lap because it is light and small. All three of them should be discarded if it was for Microsoft. It is not only the money they take from you. It is not only the electronic waste that they create. It is taking away your freedom. You are not free anymore to use your own stuff the way you want it. There was a time that we loved a new version of Windows, because it promised us more possibilities than we had. But now? Windows 10 has more than we need. And still they force 11 on us. We are not customers anymore. We are animals, we are being kept by Microsoft. They use us, spy on us and sell our data to whomever wants to pay for it. I took control over my laptops back. I made them do what I wanted them to do: work for me. And I did it with Linux. Linux is another operating system, that is fast because it has no bloatware or adverts on the computer. You hear all kinds of different names for the same thing: Mint, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Arch, PopOS and many more. All have a different look and feel, but all are Linux. I use Linux Mint, that looks a lot like Windows. It is easy to learn to use. And after a few weeks Windows feels like the alien OS, not Linux anymore. The Lenovo, literally was saved out of the rain in a garden. I had to dry it and clean it. And now it is doing a great job. And it can do it for many years to come. You don´t have to listen to Microsoft. You don´t have to throw out your old computer. You only need to switch you Operating System, OS in short. Oh yes, and Linux is free. Totally free! |
